Ive gardened for thirty years in Davis, California, struggling with poor quality water (high ph and plant toxic levels of boron) temperatures routinely above 100 in the summer, and freezing down to 27 degrees in the winter. Still, I have lovely light clay soil that goes down to China, and a quarter acre to play with. Ive turned my garden into a horticultural zoo, experimenting with plants to see which ones do the best in my less than optimal growing conditions. Im the newsletter editor and webmistress for the Perennial Plant Club of Sacramento, and an RN in my spare time.
