I live up-north, near Brainerd Mn. In 2000 I got the bug to begin gardening a very large over-run prairie area. One of the challenges has been finding species that can survive in a low wet spot. I buy lots and lots of seeds every winter/spring and germinate inside my home. I have learned a lot in the process since I suffer from many failures. But, my successes are what carries me thru to do it all again every year. What I learned(by accident) is that some seeds require multiple cold stratification periods. A real joy to get new seedlings the 2nd year. My new location near brainerd is totally wild and appears to never having been mowed. Instead of grass, I have an 8" tall sedge(Carex pennsylvanica) and it provides greenery with the mowing part left out.
