I began a Japanese influenced garden in a subruban front garden in the East Midlands two years ago.
This year I've been increasing the amount of rock in the garden through gravel areas, stepping stones and a huge granite millstone (I got it free as it was broken into 3 pieces). I'm also struggling to get the spacing of a Japanese garden right (called 'mas') but I keep overplanting - English packed borders are they way I was brought up!
I'm beginning to prune my shrubs in a more oriental style; open tiers on my austrian black pine and 'cloud' tops to the auccubas. Will I ever get a harmonious effect? Will the garden ever be finished? Well, it's so damn relaxing I hope it never is!
