Almost exclusively a perennial guy. Start most plants from seeds. Every year start about 15 varieties, 6-8 flats. Believe in starting in January to I can plant in May/June. That way there is little outside watering needed. Many flower first year when started so early (and it cures the winter blues to see growth).
Beds are all covered with fabric and mulch so they all look great, even with small first year plants. Im (quite) a bit of a planner and an efficiency freak/geek. Have thousands of plants in about 500 feet of 5-foot wide gardens.
Just a basic vegetable and herb grower. Also have asparagus (highly recommended as an easy forever-crop), peaches, strawberries, raspberries, grapes, rhubarb. Again, planting once with fabric and mulch for no monthly-maintenance crops.
p.s. Id never plant roses or butterfly bushes again!
