Well I bought a little cottage in a historic neighborhood a couple of years ago. I simultaneously bought an exhausting multi-year fixer-upper project that keeps reminding me of the Tom Hanks-Shelly Long movie, 'The Money Pit', minus the grand home at the end. After a couple of years of slowly making some improvements on the interior- with many more still to go- I have decided to focus my upcoming time and resources on the exterior. In the last 5 months I have painted the house, put a 6-foot block fence around the backyard, ripped out 2 cracked concrete walkways and an old irrigation system, and planted 5 new trees. The odd thing is that unlike the interior work (where all I wanted was to be done with it) I find myself really enjoying the planning and creating involved in the yard project. I grew up in New York City so my garden knowledge is pretty much zilch but I've bought a bunch of books and now I'm signed up with plantideas.com and gardenweb and really look forward to the next couple of years of seeing where my garden grows. Sorry if this was too long an intro! I hope to chat with many of you soon. Bye!
