I live in the UK in Leicester in the Midlands (thus mild winters by UK standards). I Have a smallish garden on a new plot. I feel that I am still a novice gardener (with just 2 summers of experience so far (I'm writing this spring 05). Home Life: Wife and 1 child.
I love colourful flowers (especially hot colours and white) and fragrance. I definately go for these two things over plants for foilage or plants for structure. Not a great fan of evergreens either so my garden looks pretty bare in winter as a consequence however! Somehow I like to see the garden 'resting' and bare in winter. Makes spring more enjoyable.
Current favourites:
Dahlias (bishop of landaff & white varieties), sweet peas, roses (fragrant only), crocosmia, poppies, cosmos, french marigolds & jasmin. Into compost making, though on a small scale.
I like plants with a bit of height (2' minimum usually); not into ground cover with exception of the french marigolds due to my fondness for hot colours.
