I moved into a new house two years ago, and it came with a huge yard full of weeds. I had NO gardening experience, so I was totally overwhelmed. Half the time I had no idea if I was pulling weeds or just flowers that hadn't bloomed yet.

The first year was spent dealing with major stuff: the front yard was paved (!!) so we had that dug out and planted grass (during the drought, oh well) and we went through a huge ordeal to have the big, unsightly propane tank in the FRONT YARD replaced with a buried tank. I probably cut down a hundred little trees (volunteers) that had grown unchecked around the edges of the grass.

GardenWeb has been great. I have spent hours reading... trying to identify what's already in the yard, finding out how to get rid of the worst weeds, discovering what will grow in my soil and sun/shade situation, and deciding which new plants I'd like to add.
