I no longer live 235 miles away from my garden - Ive finally moved out of a New York City apartment and back to Massachusetts.

Ive built an addition to the old family house with a view of Cape Cod Bay. A major portion of the old garden was relocated, and shrubs and perennials were shoved into various corners of the yard away from construction. Now Ive replanted them as a nucleus for a new garden, with some old memories.

My NYC houseplants were camping out in a temporary greenhouse by the site; but I brought them in when the weather got unreasonably cold - I couldnt keep them warm and still give them enough light. I moved down the street and they moved into my old bedroom and then into the addition.

Now theyre happily adjusting to summers outdoors with lots of room, and winters crammed indoors like the old NYC days.

During construction I spent a lot of time in the That Home Site Forums, learning about all the latest gadgets and concepts for non-apartment living. Im very grateful for those forums, but its time to get back to gardening.

Having lived so long in lower Manhattan, Im still delighted at being able to see so many stars at night and so many birds during the daytime. Ive begun to get involved in photography of birds and anything else that happens to enter my garden. My new digital camera is a Canon PowerShot SX30 IS. I use maybe 1 percent of its capabilities, but thats plenty for me at this time.
