I am a mother of 6 living in northern B.C., Canada. Winters are long and cold with lots of snow; summers are all too short. The growing season is brief, from the May long weekend to mid-August (if we're lucky!) Gardening here can be a challenge! For the past 15 years or so, my family has taken priority over the garden (as one friend put it, I was growing children, not flowers!) Now that the youngest is 10, I can turn my energies back to the flowers.

We have a large (1/3 acre) south-facing backyard which is mostly lawn. There is one large tree, a rather ancient maple, and a couple of "saplings". I plan to break up this big lawn into raised garden beds (including a small vegetable garden) with paths and interesting areas. The front yard (which faces north) has a struggling lawn, and a shallow garden along the house which gets no direct sunlight, but lots of reflected light. I planted 250 tulip and crocus bulbs there; they made a great show the first year, about half came up the second year, and the third year they basically disappeared!

My other interests are books, movies, internet forums, song-writing, and cross-stitching. I am a Christian and an active member of the local Pentecostal Assembly.

I am delighted to be part of this forum, and hope this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship with many people all over the world!

My zone is: z3a BC, Can
