I have a courtyard garden in the inner city. Mostly pot plants and a long strip of garden which my 10 year son (at the time) and I built ourselves by laying railway sleepers 3 high directly on top of the pavers and filling it with bags and bags and bags of potting mix, all carried in one by one. Well worth the effort though and it always amazes me that after 6 years it is still going strong and I have managed to grow some wonderful specimens in what is essentially a very large pot. South facing and surrounded by high rise apartments limits what I can grown with no sun in winter at all. The sun swings over the garden from east to west during the summer and can be quite tortuous at times. I have one corner which never sees any sun which is full to overflowing with wall pots and potted aspidistra and anthurium and ferns. This little courtyard garden is my absolute favourite place to be in summer. Cool and tropical - a veritable oasis in downtown Surry Hills, Sydney.

I live in: Australia

My zone is: NSW Surry Hills
