This spring I tried a garden in the front of my apt. It is in the shade, plants didn't do well. I am now cleaning the alley behind my apt complex. It gets full sun. But, it gets a lot of trash too. Keeping the trash picked up is a full time job! The soil here is calachi (mostly dust). I would like to know what I can to improve it. The alley is 9 blks long & the flower bed is 2' wide. I have planted Hollyhocks & sun flowers. What other flowers do you suggest. Plz remember it gets very hot here 104-112 in the summer. With not much rain & no humidity. My garden tools are a pickax & a brush rake. The ground is as hard as rock!
