My husband and I moved to Virginia in 1997 from Texas so the gardening here is a big change. It's fun to have "new" plants. I work in Washington, DC, and commute by rail so I don't have much time for gardening. I have a small plot at my front door with mainly mums and zinnias. It's so surprising that mums grow so big up here and increase each year. My daughter in Seabrook, TX, sent me seeds for a Texas Hibiscus. I started them indoors and transplanted two close to my neighbers on each side of me. One lived and the other didn't. Everyone in the neighborhood teased me about my "grass" plant and thought I'd be arrested. Well, to their surprise it is blooming and is so impressive. The humming birds love it! What surprised me was that it lived through a brutal winter - snow and ice both.
