Roy E. Biles, in his book, Garden Magic, said that "there is magic in the garden." Indeed, I firmly believe that there is, although there are other things, too. Such as deer, and wild honeysuckle, and poison ivy, and at times, when I am itching, cursing at roots to China, or watching a deer eat a single rhodo bud, that I wonder whether or not Mr. Biles indulged himself in some sort of crack cocaine.

But I digress. Magic must it be, for how incredible it is for a narcissus bulb, after a terribly harsh and unpleasant winter, to arise from the soil like a genie from an ancient lamp.

But, that is not to say I am friends with the deer.
