Interested in pretty much any scented trees, shrubs and climbers except roses. Current fixation--other than trying to kill the grass before the mowing kills me--is with plumerias, brugmansias (other than the common white form), the yellow-flowered poinciana (Delonix regia ?Flava?, not Peltophorum), michelias (I?ve got a potted M. champaca but haven?t found a M. alba yet), Artabotrys (haven?t see it anywhere) and Desmos (ditto).
Although my area on the western outskirts of Brisbane is classified as the subtropics, the winter nights are cold, with some nights falling to zero degrees C. The worst, my neighbours tell me, was minus 5 degrees, although they assured me that that was very unusual. But it takes only one such frost to wipe out a garden! So I have yet to come to grips with living here--fruit fly in summer, frost in winter, and a drought that seems to presage a shift to a permanently hotter and drier climate. The plumerias and michelias will be staying in their pots for now.
