My father was the biggest gardener in the universe when I was growing up and I hated everything about it. Of all the many many things he grew, the only things that I would eat were sweet corn, cukes, strawberries and melons. He repeatedly told me when I grew up I'd kick myself for not eating his tomatoes. Imagine how shocked I was when I was 40 and realized he was right!
I bought my first house last year and found myself driven to plant a vegetable garden even before unpacking. This year I hounded my husband to build raised beds for both my veggies in the back yard and flowers in the front yard and I literally now spend every free minute out working in my yard and garden.
How did this happen? I know my father is laughing from his grave... or maybe I am possessed by his spirit. My husband, it turns out, has similar issues with his mother's garden obessions. We're quite a pair.
