I have been growing herbs and a few vegetables since about 1988, but more recently became interested in ornamentals. A drought in 1999 severely damaged a large patch of our front lawn, and instead of replanting turf, we put in a rock garden. Now we have numerous perennial beds and mixed borders, and we add more - and reduce the lawn - each year. I continue to grow culinary herbs and vegetables, too. I live in the Fingerlakes region of NY state.
