Lived in Central New York since 1962. Started gardening for the fun of watching vegetables grow with the kids. Planted everything from soup to nuts as well as many as 48 tomatoe plants at one point.
When the kids outgrew watching, I outgrew the veggies. I started flowers and realized how much easier.
I came across (the beautiful) invasive 4 O'clock about 4 years ago and began to dig the tubers. Three years ago I began Dahlia growing. A real novice but am learning.
Moved just outside of Syracuse last year. Sadly had to give up a cellar cold room that I constructed (40 to 50 degrees) and as a result lost all of my 2003 tubers in the new homes unheated garage.
I was able to save a very, very few. Had to purchase a variety of new Dahlias at Wal-Mart this year '04. I had an absolutely beautiful Arabian Night variety along with stunning 6" wide Red and White tipped Contrast along with several others.
If I ever get to have a scanner I'll post someday. And with the long winter at hand I'd like to tell my story about learning how to Annual Garden in hard packed clay that seemed only suited for hardy perennials.
