I've been gardening since I was 5 when I planted acorns in my mother's garden. She allowed me to transplant one of the seedlings that came up (I cried about the loss of all the rest!) and it is a huge oak in someone's Texas backyard now. Needless to say, that was some time ago. My mother was a fantastic gardener and an inspiration to me in that pursuit.

I live in Chapel Hill now and am in the process of turning most of our corner lot into gardens of various sorts, eliminating most of the grass as I go. It is a labor of love even though many would consider me a bit fanatical.
