Gardening with trees and shrubs is my main hobby/interest. I am always trying to improve my .6 acre yard into an easy care place of peace and beauty that will provide a refuge (for me and for wildlife attracted to my yard)in my suburban location. I am partial to native trees and shrubs of the Southeast, but have found I cannot bear to leave out some nonnative Southern gardening mainstays: roses, gardenias, crepe myrtles, camellias, hydrangeas, and a few other flowering shrubs. I feel fortunate to live in a region that is so rich with varied native trees and shrubs.
