I have always been a passionate gardener - and love growing anything (except mold). Recently my husband and I spent 6 years cruising on our sailboat - Central and South America, the South Pacific, New Zealand and Australia. When we sold our boat, my burning desire was to be able to plant a garden with the plants that reminded me of the places we had been and loved: canna and agapanthus for NZ, hibiscus in Tahiti, hoya for the wild plants in Fiji, etc. Seattle simply didn't cut it...so we moved to the Big Island of Hawaii.
One of the joys, for me, of loving plants is the people I meet. "Plant" people are generally wonderful folk. As I learn about tropical gardening (and we are talking micro-climates here on the windward side of the island) the more I learn about what I don't know and the more the passion grows!
I have recently become passionate about Hoyas...what an experience these plants are! So when I take a break from the 6 acres of heliconias, gingers, calathea et.al., I dabble in the Hoya world. Fascinating!
I live in: United States
