"Black Thumb" was my nickname for myself, until I got a Cambridge studio (I'm a sculptor) with lots of sun along the driveway. A miracle! plants could now grow and thrive under my care. So when my husband and I had the chance to get a tiny summer place in RI, seaview and zone 7A, I leaped at it -- at last I could grow a few tenderer perennials. The RI space led to my interest in antique and rugosa roses, clematis, hydrangeas and other old-fashioned seaside garden shrubs and blooms.
