My wife and I built our dreamhouse on a wooded hillside in Southern Indiana near Louisville. It is mostly a maple and beech tree grove growing in nasty red clay. I grew up in Southern Illinois and expect dirt to be a different color. There is a lovely dry rock creek. We own just over an acre. The way the houses have been built make it seem larger as we all share wooded backyard privacy. My garden is mostly perennials from generations of family and friends anchored by azaeleas and hostas with some annuals thrown in to give some color. The garden rings the house, branches off here or there, and spills into the woods which we can see from inside the house so we have no curtains except in the bedrooms. I have 3 young boys and 2 small dogs that keep me company while I dig in the dirt. I am an elementary teacher and love to nurture all manner of growing things.
