After a year-plus absence from Gardenweb, I'm happy to be back in gardening and posting mode. It's good to be back.
As my long-suffering wife says, gardening is what keeps me sane. Watching things happen over the course of months and years is a welcome change from my other life as a computer system administrator where things most often happen over the course of milliseconds or less.
My primary interests include daffodils, hostas, ferns and various half-hardy tropicals. Unfortunately, given the smallness of our lot I don't have enough space to amass large collections of any of these.
On the plus side there is a good mix of sun and shade, and drainage varies from high and dry to the "moist, well-drained" conditions which so many gardeners despair of ever realizing. The "soil" here is 100% red clay (this is Georgia after all), highly acidic, staining anything it touches. Still, with a moderate effort it can be made into a wonderful gardening medium. All in all, gardening here in Lilburn, GA (East of Atlanta) is a very rewarding experience.
