I am a recent transplant to a quarter-acre in the Annandale suburbs with no gardening experience at all. My little brick house sits on what is mostly a dirt lot--when we moved in, english ivy was threatening to pull down all the trees in the backyard. Now the five truckloads of ivy are gone but theres no plants! Or any gardening tools, or a shed, or much of anything at all except mud and one hydrangea. Oh well. How hard can it be to start from scratch?
