Originally from California, I am in love with nature on the Gulf Coast. I am trying to restore 20 acres of former farmland in southeastern Alabama, very close to Pensacola, Florida. Ten acres of my land is wetlands, including an ancient Black Gum forest. My biggest problems are invasive plants and the lack of known sources for native grasses and groundcovers to replace the invasives as I remove them. Volunteers have helped us to remove about 10 acres of mature Chinese Tallow (popcorn)trees from the swamp. The swamp still has a lot of native vegetation, from ferns to rushes, but the farmland is an incredible challenge. We've planted 7,000 trees and 400 species of native wildflowers, grasses, etc. My favorite plants are native butterfly caterpillar host plants (I have about 80 spp.) and carnivorous plants (I have about 16 spp.)

I live in: United States

My zone is: GulfCoastAL

My favorite forum 1 is Butterfly Garden.

My favorite forum 2 is Native Plants.
