Just for Goldcroft...

We have a small garden, 8.5 metres -by- 4.5 metres. We have just moved to our new house and so had a blank canvas - well, a muddy one actually!
Everyone else around us was laying lawns, putting up sheds and swings in the garden. We didn't want any of that, didn't want to buy a lawnmower but wanted a nice garden.
So we went for a completely gravelled garden. After 3.5 tonnes of grey/white limestone small gravel the effect was dramatic.
We are now in the process of buying plants for pots, like a Bay tree (I actually got this for my 30th - which indicates how dedicated I am :) - We've planted a few plants actually into the ground include Ivy and some "hairy" (we call them) grasses.
Our latest project is to plant a tree. I love Silver Birch so am going to ignore it's potential eventual size and get one planted. Next is decking and some sort of hedging. We like a type of Wisteria that has good looking yellow leaves so plan to have that grow up one of the walls and try and act as a hedge to hide the wall.
We're complete beginners at gardening and spend a lot of time searching the net for ideas, tips and tricks. I've been told I have green fingers, which I think is based on the fact I haven't killed anything yet - my trick is to simply water everything once a day even if it rains. I've made up the idea that when I plant something new I water it a lot, after a couple of weeks I still water it but poor the water further and further away from the plant to make it go and find it - it's probably rubbish but they're not dead yet :-) Next I am considering using Miracle-Gro.
We'd love to keep in touch with other people from the UK to swap ideas and garden designs.
