ive been gardening on these 2 acres almost 10 years. before i came along it was an old apple orchard turned into a sweet native garden. sincere thanks to the gentleman who planted the black walnut, sequoia almost 70 years ago and to the others that added their great contributions. it wouldnt be the great place of solace that it is for me without the contributions of gardeners long gone. there are several 100+ foot trees and a few orchard trees left. the fruit trees keep me busy with pruning throughout the wet and mild winters, a sea of bluebells every april (both beauty and bane), old clumps of peonies, and painstakingly lugged river rocked borders. i share this space with coons, possums (in the years when the coons dont eat them), squirrels, cats, and birds (when the cats dont eat them) and the ever present, beautiful and dastardly deer. mostly woodland gardens with deer resistant plants (nothing is deer proof, ive learned . . .) update: and turkeys! 9! turkeys out in the back this evening! where the hell did they come from?
