I've lived in Missouri, Illinois, Colorado, South Carolina, and Maryland. I've had five acre yards and no yard at all. Right now, most of my "gardening" is taking place on the upper deck of our town house. My son brought home a tiny, leafless twig in a damp paper towel from some school project. We rooted it in water and planted it in a pot on the window sill, then on the deck, then re-potted it again and again. it is now a 7 foot tree-- a birch of some kind, ai think. I also seem to have orphan maple trees and a twig that I think is a sassafrass growing in pots on the deck. I keep thinking they need the freedom of the "real earth" to grow in, but I don't have much to offer them, besides, I like their company. I'm hoping this forum can give me some help with growing trees in pots. I don't mean "Bonsai"-- that doesn't interest me. I just wonder how long my trees can survive, relatively happily, as pot-dwellers!
