I own about two acres inside the city of Grand Rapids. Almost half of the property is a marsh which covers aprox. 15 acres. The house sits on a bluff over looking the marsh, and the deck is about 15 feet from the edge of the bluff. This allows us a incredible view of the marsh. Lots of people see this as a swamp, and wonder why anyone would choose to live on a swamp. I can tell you that we have twenty different kinds of birds or more that visit our feeders, along with other critters snakes, coons an turtles mostly. We live less than 2 city blocks from a major street, and 4 blocks from an expressway, and we hear more birds and frogs than cars and trucks. I was suprised to learn that ducks quack all night long!
I like to fix things and I always have an opinion good or bad, but I hope that there are more good ones than bad ones. As a boomer, I like instant results, but I have been around long enough to know that some things take time, like perennials, trees and srubs. I have planted many of each at this house because I would always put it off at the other homes that I have owned over the years and I have always regretted that. My house is the last house I will ever own and I can tell you that the previous owner was a enviromental pig. I removed over 100 tires and wheels from the marsh and still have a long way to go to undo some of the nasty things that he did, but slowly I am making this a natural enviroment again.
If you are reading this then I have probably twisted your crank the wrong direction. Life is short, so you had better get over what ever I have done to upset you. Peace and the Glory of God be with you and yours.
