Southern California Fruiter! - We live on top of a small mountain (hill) ridge in L.A., just SW of Pasadena. On the cusp of 10b but probably 10a, not sure if it's Sunset 20, 21, 22 or 24. My 400sf flat back yard gets full southern exposure, and nearly no shade. I have planted 3 small high density orchards of pit, tropical and citrus fruits. I also have some raised organic vegetable beds in...real beds. (Twin wood bedframes and other furniture.) I'm using a combination of square foot gardening, companion planting and layered compost in the beds, but I'm thinking about consolidating to just tomatoes and friends this winter and next year. I've got some red wigglers and a hot churned pile going too. Our front lawn is xeriscaped --mostly thyme, rosemary and lavender of varied species. 'a citrus espalier nearby to take advantage of the pebbles' heat. We have a baby boy and two cats.
