I recently moved into a lovely home in North Scottsdale just north of Scottsdale Road and Pinnacle Peak. The previous owners traveled extensively and had only gravel and cacti in the back yard. No deck, no pool, no appeal. You can see photos at http://www.azshowcase.com/ashmain/Cacti.html. So, I tore the entire yard out down to flat dirt and installed a Tuscan designed pool with lots of deck space which should be finished by 8/14/04. I have a 4ft of soil surrounding the cool decking and have set my sites on ROSES and VINES/CLIMBERS. I know nothing except that they are fabulous. I bought Roses for Dummies and Landscaping with Roses. I wanted Roses in a Desert Garden but its out of print. Needless to say, Im open to ANY advice for growing roses in our climate as well as advice on other plants that would go well. Ive enjoyed gardening for many years - mostly container gardening, however. I wish I had seen this site 3 months ago when I had my back yard torn out. I had THOUSANDS of dollars in specimen cacti that I would have gladly given free to a good home. I look forward to being active in this forum. And, my apologies in advance if I ask too many questions. -Robin
