I am a retired teacher with three grown children. My husband is a research librarian. I have a wonderful raised bed herb garden outside my kitchen door, just like in colonial times. I also adore roses. Nothing sets off a house like beautiful gardens. I am hoping to learn more.
When I was a child, about 10 or so, I decided to "convert" the neighbors "stone lot" into a garden. I had heard from my grandmother that if you put a fish head under everyplant, the plants will do very well. So off I went to the fish store and planted fish heads all through the neighbor's scrub. Needless to say, the neighborhood cats were happy, but the neighbor wasn't.
