I garden on a small, urban plot. Im continually torn between my love of Japanese garden aesthetics and my love for every plant I see. So the layout of my garden was inspired by Japanese garden design--a stone \"stream\" that runs along the main path, evergreens grouped and shaped to look like rocks and mountains, an so on. But Ive crammed tons of plants into the garden and it is definitely NOT a Japanese garden. I love dwarf conifers, Japanese maples, bamboo, ferns, hellebores, violas, sempervivums, alliums, and all small and species spring bulbs...and more, and more. Im working on having a spring carpet of Scilla siberica over the entire yard. Ive been gardening here for three years and am happy to see some things naturalizing.

Im also an avid indoor gardener. My current indoor obsession is with hippeastrum (Amaryllis). Last winter, I tried hybridizing these plants; now I have 16 com pots full of seedlings. Im trying to keep my cats from chewing them to bits. I force a lot of hardy bulbs in the refrigerator, much to my husbands dismay.

My zone is: z6 MA
