We've lived in the Pacific Northwest for 32 years, so are used to the cool, rainy weather. We have a fairly large yard, which hasn't had a lot done to it other than the basics. We recently built a brick patio on the south side of our house and surrounded part of it with rose bushes. I have for many years bought starter fucshias in the spring and typically have three large baskets with 4 varieties in each basket. I also will have a basket or two of other shade loving plants like impatiens hung on the north side of the house under the patio cover. Our neighborhood has been developed more these past few years, and the birds have lost a lot of natural territory, so my husband has let the back half of our yard alone, except to cut some of the grass. We have a stand of ornamental bamboo that was here when we moved in. We fought to kill it, but realized that was impossible, so now we just leave it for bird refuge. We have feeders, and go through one Costo size box of seed every 2 week. We have seen some fun species, however, and enjoy our flowers and birding!
