Update: July 26, 2010:

Im moving from zone 8 in TX with a heat zone of 9 to NM zone 6 with a heat zone of only 4. Like I havent already had a lot of learning to do, I now have to figure out how to grow things all over again with this drastic a change in temperatures and an altitude of over 7100 feet! Wish me tons of blessings during this awesome adventure! ;-)

Blessings,
Angela

P.S. For anyone who wants to know about my first experience as a gardener, heres my first post at GardenWeb on July 22, 2008. Its titled, "Total newbie goofball gardener":

Okay, I feel really stupid coming here with all the good, careful gardeners here on the forum. I am a new stay at home mom of four (I used to work full-time) and thought wed do some fun activities like plant the tomato and cantaloupe seeds from the fruit we just ate to see how things went. I guess more like an experiment than true gardening. LOL

Well, I about fell out when I saw little plants coming up out of the ground in rows. Wow! I have to say that Im WAY more excited than the kids, and theyre pretty excited!

My question is, since I have done nothing right so far, what can I do now to make this gardening thing happen? Im really falling in love with it. We water daily, pull tiny weeds around them, and stare at them a lot giggling. We have very sandy soil that Im sure doesnt have any thing these plants need in it to grow them well. The tomatoes are romas that we bought from the store and took the seeds out of and the same goes for the cantaloupe.

Oh, Im so excited and nervous. Im not usually the green thumb type even with house-plants like ivy, but I want to change that now. I spend every afternoon reading in forums like here trying to gain knowledge. I am even planning a greenhouse for the winter. Its a little overwhelming, but with you guys giving some advice and me learning all I can, Im sure I can make this work into something wonderful for our family.
