I enjoy gardening in fits and starts. I have long periods when I have little or no opportunity to do anything except cut the grass, so the garden has to look after itself then.

I live on an estate with a triangular corner plot, with hedges all round, the longest being of 100ft laurel. This consumes significant time and effort.

Vegetables are what makes gardening fun. I don't bother with flowers but grow veg when I have garden access for sufficient time like this summer (2003).

I try not to add chemicals and composting has become a great interest.
