I have been gardening long about five years, in a serious way, and I've become fascinated by the process of how you can transform a boring yard into something interesting to look at. I finished Master Gardener training in June 2002 -- what a satisfying accomplishment that was. Now I'm looking forward to continuing to improve my knowledge and helping others through the county's Extension Master Gardener program.

Gardening in northeastern Kansas has, so far, been different each of the seasons I have gardened here, and I'm sure my fellow Kansas will attest that that's just the way it is. Variety is what keeps us vital, I guess. I'm interested in developing perennial gardens that respond well to the changing conditions of heat, drought, moisture, and cold -- using native plants wherever possible. My goal is a showplace garden, even though it's small, that shows others how to achieve interesting results in a small space on a limited budget. I also strive to avoid harmful pesticides, herbicides, and practices that are not eco-friendly.
