I have a little apartment garden near downtown Columbus, Ohio. Some of the "beds" are only six inches wide, so Ive become pretty adept and planting up!

Over the years, I carefully whittled away at my landlords lawn and brush piles. I have several roses I proud of, plenty of herbs and lilies and edibles. Someday, Id like to have an actual "garden plan" so it looks a little less like an end-of-season clearance sale, but -- gardens are always a work in progress.

Ive spent much of this summer (2005) working on my upstairs neighbors porch. A fabulous 8x26 space that had nothing but two chairs and a chained bike when we got started. Now its filled with planters and plenty of blooming and fragrant plants, hanging baskets, a great dining table and soft lighting all around the porch. Most of the things there are recycled or repurposed, and we may have been a little *too* successful -- now the other neighbor is dragging out ratty couches, college flags etc, to join in the fun. Ah, well; at least the space is used now!

Unfortunately, I lost the formal herb garden I maintained at work to new construction. Most of the plants found good homes, but were busy reclaiming another stretch of lawn right in front of us. We have several lilac bushes and peach trees, and Im collecting antique bricks and flagstones from other construction site. Every year my surroundings get a little prettier!

I love all kinds of plants, especially herbs and fragrant plants. And Im a huge fan of the Central Ohio garden swaps, spring and fall.
