There was a time ten years ago when we built a new house in NY and I had so much trouble with my back that I was unable to garden at all. I began to regain some agility when we moved to Vermont, but of course, if you blinked, youd miss the growing season! And dont ever try to plant anything until the ground begins to thaw in May! Since moving to SC more than five years ago, Im now able to dabble in the dirt for several hours at a time, and Im surprised how much I enjoy it, aching knees, sweaty hair, clay-caked jeans and all. I took the master gardening course in Greenville, SC, a few years ago--now at least I know what Im doing wrong and why my plants die! I adore roses and lilies and have learned a great deal from the generous advice of forum members--Ive been printing out particularly informative threads for some time now and keep them filed in my rose notebook for useful reference. I especially value the forums advice because I can find out what works in the Southeast, rather than relying on a book published in New York or England in a climate unlike the steamy South.
