I’m new to in-ground gardening outside but have been interested in plants for a couple of years. A little of this in a container, a little of that.....This past spring I began gardening outside more intensely and have developed a variety of plant interests. The grass in my front yard is rapidly disappearing; the back yard is still relatively untouched, except for a small bed of daylilies, since my furkids play back there.

My furkids are currently a motley crew of four who overcame early disadvantages to grow into much-loved family members; some people really missed out when they thoughtlessly dumped these babies. One of the boys is deaf since birth so I have a special place in my heart for deaf dogs, and firmly believe that anyone can learn to communicate w/ them. It’s not difficult, just different. All of our furkids have enriched our lives and taught us something.

We have a cat, too, but...um....she’s a cat, lol. She just IS. What have I learned from her? Well..... I have learned that you can take a less-than-socialized young cat(who already had 3 kittens of her own) who is living in a Home Depot parking lot and eating rats that are about as big as she is and, with time and really good quality cat food, turn her into a spoiled but loving housecat who has fur like velvet. It is hard to believe that we once had to force her to allow us to pet her because now we can’t get her off of our laps! Our goal had been to adopt her out, just as we were able to find homes for her 3 kittens once they were old enough, but she grew on us. Not to mention that she was hateful to every potential adopter who visited her; was that a coincidence? You be the judge.

As far as plants, my main interests of the moment are daylilies, dahlias, gingers (Hedychiums), alocasias and colocasias (elephant ears), lilies, daffodils, hydrangeas, and hostas. This is by no means an exhaustive list, just a few off the top of my head. I like to experiment w/ plants, try different things. Growing from cuttings is a special interest of mine; sometimes I have success, sometimes I don’t.
