My name is Marion Owen. After going to sea as a merchant marine officer and seaman for 8 years, I found a home in Kodiak, Alaska in 1984. I've been gardening here ever since. Our growing season lasts (if the weather gods allow) from May to October. I have 30 raised beds which keep me busy as a master gardener, professional photographer and writer. My work has been featured in Organic Gardening, National Geographic and Better Homes & Gardens (cover photo). In addition to getting my hands dirty, I am co-author of the bestseller, Chicken Soup for the Gardener?s Soul. I love to teach, especially to take the mystery out of gardening, and do this through organic gardening classes at the University of Alaska. My motto: "You can garden anywhere!" I also enjoy combining my motivational speaking, gardening and photography skills in presentations for trade shows, seminars, conventions, and business seminars. When addressing audiences, I encourage people to discover what they love to do, and then to do it! Born and raised on Puget Sound in Washington State, my husband Marty and I enjoy exploring Kodiak Island on our boat. I love sea kayaking, whale-watching, hiking, weight lifting, fishing, reading, scuba diving, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
