I live in central North Carolina, just outside of Raleigh. I live on 2 acres of mostly trees, but what gardening areas I do have run the spectrum from full blazing NC sun to deep shade, along with a little grass and lots of what we affectionately refer to as \"natural area\". I do 99.9% of the outside work, because to my husband yard work should involve fire or a chain saw.

I have started trying to compost this year, but I admit I'm rather lazy about it. I think I have what you call a cool pile .. I throw stuff in it and ignore it. I have another bin, I promise to start over and try harder.

I'm heavily into perennials; annuals are nice but seem like a waste of money. I'm also learning quite quickly the art of finding free stuff!
