I have a love of several things. This includes gardening, karate, weight-lifting, and people.
I took our local Master Gardener course in 1997 because I wanted a nice lawn like my neighbors. They told me they learned so much by taking the MG course together. I finally took the course a couple of years later. Result: I have some really nice gardens but am just now getting around to getting in my grass...flowers are so much more fun!
My mother and grandmother gave me a love of flowers. I started growing houseplants in college, primarily
African Violets, Coleus, and Kalanchoes. I have since fallen in love with perennials, bulbs, annuals, and shrubs..heck, I like it all.
I especially love irises, daylilies, and bulbs and have been a member of the Central Virginia Iris Society for four or five years now.
My goal for my yard is be a four season garden as well. Secondly I want flowers that attract butterflies and birds, especially hummingbirds. I have a wonderful mixture of roses, peonies, hostas, irises, ornamental grasses, daylilies, bulbs, and anything I can find a place for in my yard.
I am also working on various yard art and points of interest through out my beds. I was at one time an art teacher and find that background wonderful in planning and designing my garden.
Nuff said. Looking forward to making many wonderful friends through this website.
Happy Gardening,
