I have a 500 watt HID fixture (250 MH plus 250 HPS) set up in my kitchen plus a fogger and a/c. Not having achieved spectacular results with all of this climate management, I'm phasing out the ac, and reducing fogger output to hit around 50-60 during the day, less at night. Mainly interested in growing standard unifoliate cattleyas, which I think would be happier with twice the light. Shorter bifoliates invariably perform better for me.

Most important lessons to date: Keep it simple, and balance the demands of the orchid hobby with the rest of my life.
