Welcome to adina72's Member Page
I am married to a wonderful man that I met online in 2000. We have a one-acre lot near the Oneida River. It is very challenging gardening in New York State and I love talking with others on the subject. My goal is to reduce the lawn by half and take the Master Gardener’s course if I ever get time.
My philosophy is to garden as organically as possible...not strictly organic, but I guess what you would call Environmentally Friendly. We had our yard Certified in 2006 as a Backyard Wildlife Habitat. My favorite plants include hostas, daylilies, true lilies, coneflowers, rudbeckias, phlox, dahlias, hydrangas, cosmos, pansies and lupine, though I love almost everything. I am trying to add more native species all the time and will be working on developing the backyard which can be very wet at times.
I love bird watching and photography and recently launched a website to track our progress in the gardens as well as our outdoor projects (www.gardensandcrafts.com).
Another passion of mine is making garden art and structures from copper pipe, twigs, bowling balls and other recycled items...whatever I can get my hands on. I’ve recently developed an interest in mosaics and working with stained glass and hypertufa.
I love glass insulators, blue and green glass, glass totems, anything metal, old gears and springs, milk cans and milk pails. I also love items made from natural materials such as twigs, pinecones, nuts, etc.
We will be constructing a greenhouse out of old windows in 2008-2009.
