I just moved from Georgia to Ohio, trading acidic clay for alkaline clay, summer heat for winter chill. I'm relearning the art of gardening in the north after living in the south for ten years. I have almost twice the acreage to play with, but the soil here hasn't (yet) been amended and composted into cooperation like my garden in Atlanta. I'm also learning to contend with raccoons and deer in the garden, something that my former urban lot didn't have.

This year (2004) I'm planting fifteen tomato and eighteen pepper plants--for two people!--with the intent of supplying a local food bank were we volunteer with the excess.
