My wife and I bought a house in the somewhat country this year. With the help of this forum the entire lawn has been redone and most of the landscaping including the transplanting of an enormous black (or Norway not quite sure yet) spruce that was only a few feet from the foundation. The lawn looks unbelievable. I built a rock garden. I also have a fairly large vegetable garden going (from seed), all this in a few months of hard work, from a guy who spent the last 10 years living in NYC. The sheer speed that all this has been accomplished can be explained by my desperation to get my hands dirty from all the city dwelling. Now I wake up and walk around my little paradise, admire my beautiful trees, plantings, flowers and the chirping of birds. Oh yea and my incredibly lush lawn. What can i say, its like heaven. But there is much to learn, Ive battled damping off, water restrictions and now the sllugs have leveled some crops, and those poor hostas. Much to learn.

Ok funny story. during my last years living in an old loft in brooklyn I tried each year to grow a garden on the roof. Boy I earned my stripes up there, oh the heat the terrible heat. 120 degrees easy, pooring off the asphalt. I had to carry huge buckets of water up those stairs 4,5 times a day just to keep them alive. Felt much like putting out a fire, except it lasted for endless months. Only to result in small tough skinned, cracked, BERotted tomatoes. And I did this each year. Ok not so funny, but you can now understand my great happiness in now being in the cool, misty north with a real yard.

Anyway glad to be here.
