Area rug placement

In a quandary about how to place an area rug in this room. Wondering if the area rug should just encompass the sofa? The concern about including the two chairs front legs on the area rug is that the rug would have to be quite large and it would come into the Walk area from the front door into the kitchen? I appreciate any ideas you have and just sidenote I will be replacing coffee table, the side table, and the chairs at some point, thanks for your time

It is very difficult to say from your pictures! Make a sketch of the room, measure it and note the doorways, kitchen locale etc . Feet and inches. Walls, windows, fireplace all . UpLoad it as a jpeg below in a comment, please.

Rugs are meant to be walked on! Leaving wide swaths of wood to avoid them simply cuts up, shrinks a room, visually. Your furniture looks quite spread out, and conversationally difficult as well. Note the dimensions of the sectional too?

I have oriental rugs in every room (except bathrooms!) and I don't follow any rules. Family room has all furniture on rug and living room only has the coffee table on it. What will usually be the problem is that people choose rugs that are too small and it can make the space look off or unbalanced. My rugs seem to get bigger as the years have gone by ... just bougt a 12x16 and went with a slightly unconventional layout for the master bedroom, but the room is so asymmetrical with lots of useless space in the middle, that the big rug made the most sense to fill that space. I would put down the rug, try the different positions and see which layout looks best to you. You have a good eye -- trust it!

hey all, let me clarify. this is our master bedroom sitting room so just for my husband and me. I do have a lazboy recliner arriving in a month or so. my husband has yet to buy his (he's very picky). we have the round side tables that we may or may not use. I was thinking of putting the recliners on the left side kinda of facing the TV (so crooked). because of the odd layout with the angle of the fireplace and the tv currently above it, I haven't been sure of what shape rug to get. only because of the weird angle. everything else I can figure out. don't mind the mess of baby things, please. we moved here over the summer and this room has been useless so it's been casual storage for our baby who rooms with us right now. I want to create this room to be a warm-neutral space and I don't care for hardwoods so I wanted the largest rug I could get for this odd space but not sure what is appropriate.

You could do a custom size and shape. I don't have experience with the site I posted below but it gives you an idea of what can be done. Otherwise you can shop a local carpet store as I'm sure they offer this service, too. And don't forget to look at remnants if the carpet store offers them as they can be bounded, too. any suggestions on how to go about with what size and style of a rug to place in the entryway. I have included the bench and console table which is on order. if I place 2 runner they will interfere with one another. Any thoughts? if I center a runner with the console then won't be able to center a runner with the bench. help?
