Roman shade ideas for 8 foot doors
Comments (1)I love the look of french doors framed with curtains instead of just roman shades: Or plain: Curtains without shades is a lovely look too:...See MoreAre 8 foot doors too high for a ranch house with 10 foot ceilings?
Comments (8)I feel there's no generic or a correct answer; it all depends on the layout whether you are referring to doors leading to bedrooms, office, kitchen or pantry, or bathrooms, or hallways etc. etc. An 8' door may look freakishly tall in one setting and may look quite normal or elegant in another be it 9', 10' or 12' ceilings. The door width will also determine it's visual impact. Our 8' interior doors are 36" glass doors, opposite each other leading to the laundry and walk in pantry in a section that has 9' ceiling; why? because the huge adjoinning family room has 12' ceilings with 8' glass wall of sliders each with 30" transom windows above, it ties in nicely. What I'm trying to say is, draw it out or visualize the impact of what you would see from any particular point or location in your home....See MoreNiches on a 10 foot and 11 foot wall. 8 ft door height
Comments (4)Not sure the reasoning even behind niches in the main living areas if that is where you are speaking of. But if these are fro the main living area I will say the answer is it depends, on you home layout, you furniture choices, your wall widths (think artwork, tables, etc), future room layout, resale.. There is no simple answer and it is close to impossible to know why your builder would say buy prefab over framing them himself....See MoreGarage door opener for 16 x 8 foot door
Comments (6)What made the 1.2hp Genie a lemon? A 3/4hp is adequate for a typical 16x8 metal door. There are 2 main companies that dominate the market: Genie and Chamberlain (who also make Liftmaster and Craftsman). These are both US based companies. The big box stores sell a couple non-US based products as well, currently Skylink and Sommer. The openers the US companies offer and where to buy them mirror that of other household appliances - for specific product series they will change a function/aesthetic or add/delete a certain amenity to differentiate them at price points for markets or for a specific store, but you are getting the same internal package produced for that series. If you want a certain feature (e.g. single rail, or stainless tub for a washer), then you would move to another series by that manufacturer, who then again differentiates price points for that series. In comparing them at a big box store vs local mom and pop, you have to evaluate features in terms of model numbers. For Liftmaster vs Chamberlain/Crafstman, Liftmaster is marketed as more "professional," with a higher price point, some better-suited parts, and a bit more complicated installation. Chamberlain/Craftsman is marketed as more "homeowner" with a lower price point and easier DIY installation....See Morepalimpsest
