Microwave-Convection Re-Badges
Comments (0)It looks like severial companies re-badge the Sharp R-930, namely Viking and DCS to name two, and simularly the Bosch 80x0 gets rebadged as Gaggenau and Thermador models (Bosch actually owns both of those brands, so no suprise). One concern I have about adding the convection function to the microwave is cleaning the darn thing. Do the higher $$$ re-badge models modify the oven cavities themselves? I'm going to be building the microwave in above the conventional/convection oven. I would also like to eliminate the counter-top toaster oven, just for space concerns, which gets used for things like garlic bread and pizza rolls. The thing is, my cheap little toaster oven is pretty painless to replace when the grime gets too bad. Going for a built-in with the microwave, not only is it a bigger $$$ investment, but also much more trouble to replace. I'm looking for what others have experienced. I've seen some negative comments about the R-930 in particualr about cleaning. Do the Vikings and DCS's have the same issue? Thanks,...See MoreThermador Speed Cook
Comments (0)Does anyone have this or know anything about it? I have a chance to purchase a set of Thermador wall ovens (double) from last year at a great price. The top oven has the Speed Cook technology, but also can be used as a conventional and convection oven. I want to know how these perform and how people like the Speed Cook. thanks for any info......See More3rd Oven/Micro question
Comments (2)Advantiums can't go under the counter. Something about the steam venting can't be low or at kid-level. So... if you want to go the speed oven/microwave route that only leaves Miele and Electrolux. I don't know much about the Electrolux or if they can be installed under the counter. I know the Miele can. There are two models and one is signfigantly more than the other (Master Chef is one and I can't remember the name of the other. One has like 30 recipes and the other 90 - however, I don't know the exact numbers so don't quote me on that or anyone else say I am totally wrong.) When are you planning on selling? Are you remodeling just to sell or are you going to get to enjoy it yourself for a few years before selling? To be honest, I hadn't even heard of a steam oven until I started re-doing my kitchen and I sold real estate for 7 years. But who knows, maybe in your neighborhood everyone has steam ovens and you have to do it to keep up with the Joneses. In my experience, however, steam ovens are not all that popular and I would only spend the money on one if I were going to use it - not just for resale. Are you not doing a double oven? You can certainly do a double oven with the steam option on only the top oven and a convention oven on the bottom. Maybe that is what you were getting at, sorry, I am a little confused about your post. My advice would be to do a double oven and then install a Sharp microwave drawer in the third location. You could go with a high-end name-brand like Wolf, Viking or Dacor but you'd be paying a lot of money just for the look and name on the outside as Sharp makes all the insides for microwave drawers. Also, go with a 24'', not a 30'' unless it is the only way it works with your cabinets because the 30'' ones are really 24'' inside. HTH....See MoreConvection Microwave
Comments (14)Thanks for the info, Alwaysfixin. You are right- the Sharp is almost exactly like the DCS! It amazes me what the mark-up is for a slight facelift... and I thought only plastic surgeons were paid the big bucks for this! Pllog- you are right- it seems that I could sneak the Advantium under the counter. I hope that the appliance installer will do it- otherwise I guess it will become a DIY job. It really has all of the features I am looking for, and I have heard so many good reviews about it. So... I ended up buying two of the Advantiums (my kitchen is kosher, so I wanted one for meat and one for dairy). I will install one with a standard convection oven to make a double oven, and another I think I will put under the counter....See MoreSandra Guzek
